EDITORS COMMENTS
This print from 1913 showcases Boscawen Street in Truro, Cornwall. The street is adorned with vibrant decorations, possibly in preparation for the highly anticipated Bath and West Show on May 27th of that year. As we gaze upon this snapshot of history, our attention is immediately drawn to the presence of a distinguished policeman positioned at the center of the photograph. With his collar number clearly visible as "10" it is believed that he may be none other than James Philip Hawton. The image offers us a glimpse into daily life during this era, as several wagons can be seen lining the street. These horse-drawn carriages were an integral part of transportation back then and add a touch of nostalgia to the scene. Additionally, one cannot overlook the charming street pump standing proudly amidst its surroundings. While capturing this momentous occasion, it's unfortunate that we do not know who exactly was behind the lens. Nevertheless, their skillful composition allows us to immerse ourselves in this bygone era and appreciate both its simplicity and grandeur. This remarkable print serves as a testament to Truro's rich heritage and reminds us how much has changed over time while also highlighting elements that have stood the test of time. It invites us to reflect on our own connection with history and encourages exploration into Cornwall's fascinating past.
