Waterfall Gardens with the Parish Church of St George the Martyr on the left and Isambard Kingdom Brunels timber fanned Carvedras Viaduct on the right. This viaduct was replaced by an all stone structure which opened on 17th August 1902. Step back in time to the enchanting Waterfall Gardens of Truro, Cornwall. This print captures a picturesque scene before 1902, showcasing the idyllic beauty that once graced this cherished spot. On the left stands the magnificent Parish Church of St George the Martyr, its timeless architecture adding a touch of grandeur to the landscape. To the right, we are treated to a glimpse of Isambard Kingdom Brunel's timber fanned Carvedras Viaduct. A testament to engineering brilliance, this viaduct would soon make way for an all-stone structure in 1902. The passing trains on this railway marvel must have added an element of excitement and wonder to those who visited these gardens. Speaking of which, Waterfall Gardens opened their gates in 1893 and quickly became a beloved destination for locals and visitors alike. Their natural splendor provided solace and tranquility amidst bustling city life. In later years, these gardens were incorporated into Victoria Gardens as part of Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee celebrations in 1897 – a fitting tribute to her reign. As we gaze upon this vintage photograph with its snowy winter backdrop, we can't help but be transported back in time; imagining ourselves strolling through these remarkable gardens while breathing in crisp air and marveling at nature's wonders.
