Edward Fitzgerald, English writer
Edward FitzGerald (1809-1883), English writer. FitzGerald was a writer and poet, best known as the poet of the first and most famous English translation of The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam. He first published it anonymously in 1859 and then enlarged it in subsequent editions. He also made translations of other Persian works and a selection of the work of fellow Suffolk poet George Crabbe. Photographed in 1873
