Florida peninsula seen from Space Shuttle
Florida peninsula seen from space. To the right of the frame is the Atlantic Ocean, with the Gulf of Mexico to the left. Just right of centre jutting out into the Atlantic is Cape Canaveral, home of the Kennedy Space Center from where all Shuttle missions are launched. The spread of the city of Miami is seen as the grey area at the bottom right of the peninsula. The dark patch next to Miami is Lake Okeechobee. Extending from bottom centre to bottom left is the line of the Florida Keys: at bottom right is pale blue, shallow water next to South Bimini Island. This photograph was taken by the crew of Shuttle Discovery during Mission 51-C of 24-27 January 1985

EDITORS COMMENTS
This breathtaking print captures the stunning view of the Florida peninsula as seen from space. The image showcases the intricate details of this iconic region, revealing its natural beauty and man-made landmarks. From the perspective of the Space Shuttle, we witness a mesmerizing sight: to the right lies the vast expanse of the Atlantic Ocean, while on the left is the serene Gulf of Mexico. Intriguingly positioned in between these two bodies of water is Cape Canaveral, prominently jutting out into the Atlantic. This cape holds great significance as it houses Kennedy Space Center, where countless historic shuttle missions have been launched into space. As our gaze shifts towards Miami at bottom right, we observe a sprawling grey area that represents this vibrant city's urban spread. Adjacent to Miami stands Lake Okeechobee, appearing as a dark patch against its surroundings. Stretching across from bottom center to bottom left are none other than Florida Keys - an enchanting line connecting various islands. At their southernmost point lies South Bimini Island with pale blue shallow waters surrounding it. This awe-inspiring photograph was captured by Science Photo Library during Mission 51-C conducted by Shuttle Discovery between January 24th and 27th in 1985. It serves as a testament to humanity's exploration and appreciation for Earth's wonders beyond our terrestrial boundaries.
