John Harris, English writer
John Harris (circa 1666-1719), English writer. Harris is best known for his encyclopedic dictionary Lexicon Technicum, one of the first encyclopedic works in the English language. The first edition of this work was published in London in 1704. A second edition of this volume was published in 1708, followed by a second volume in 1710. Harris was a scholar of Trinity College, Oxford, from 1684 to 1688. He was elected a fellow of the Royal Society in 1696. This artwork is from a first edition of Lexicon Technicum
