Konstantin Feoktistov, Soviet cosmonaut

Konstantin Petrovich Feoktistov (1926-2009), Soviet cosmonaut and engineer. Feoktistov, an engineer, flew in space aboard the Voskhod 1 spacecraft on 12-13 October 1964, with two other cosmonauts. This was the first spaceflight to carry more than one person, and orbited the Earth 16 times. Feoktistov never flew again due to medical reasons, but later became head of the Soviet space design bureau, designing some of the first orbital stations. He was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union. Photographed in 1965, in Moscow, Russia

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures Konstantin Feoktistov, a prominent figure in Soviet space exploration. Born in 1926 and passing away in 2009, Feoktistov was not only a skilled engineer but also an esteemed cosmonaut. In 1964, he embarked on a groundbreaking mission aboard the Voskhod 1 spacecraft alongside two fellow cosmonauts. This historic flight marked the first time that more than one person had ventured into space, orbiting the Earth an impressive 16 times. Although medical reasons prevented Feoktistov from further space travel, his contributions to the field did not end there. He went on to become the head of the Soviet space design bureau and played a pivotal role in designing some of the earliest orbital stations. Recognized for his exceptional achievements, he was awarded the prestigious title of Hero of the Soviet Union. The photograph itself dates back to 1965 and showcases Feoktistov during his prime years as he engages in conversation with another individual. The monochrome image adds an air of nostalgia and highlights both his intelligence and determination. As we gaze upon this snapshot from history, we are reminded of Feoktistov's significant impact on space exploration and engineering advancements during that era. This remarkable portrait serves as a testament to Konstantin Petrovich Feoktistov's enduring legacy within Russian society and beyond—a man whose brilliance propelled humanity towards new frontiers among the stars.
