Picard satellite, artwork
Picard satellite in Earth orbit, artwork. This satellite, one of the MYRIADE microsatellites from the French space agency (CNES), is designed to study the Sun and its effect on the Earths climate. It was launched on 15 June 2010 and orbits at an altitude of 725 kilometres. It has three sets of instruments: SOVAP, PREMOS and SODISM. These are used to measure the variability of solar radiation (SOVAP), rates of ozone formation and destruction in Earths atmosphere (PREMOS), and solar diameter, shape and interior structure (SODISM). The latter involves helioseismology, studying pressure waves that exist within the Sun

EDITORS COMMENTS
This artwork showcases the Picard satellite in Earth orbit, a remarkable creation by the French space agency (CNES). Launched on 15 June 2010, this MYRIADE microsatellite is specifically designed to unravel the mysteries of our Sun and its profound impact on Earth's climate. Suspended at an altitude of 725 kilometers, it diligently carries out its mission with three sets of cutting-edge instruments: SOVAP, PREMOS, and SODISM. SOVAP enables precise measurements of solar radiation variability while PREMOS meticulously studies rates of ozone formation and destruction within our atmosphere. The SODISM instrument delves into the intricate details of solar diameter, shape, and interior structure through helioseismology – an awe-inspiring study that explores pressure waves resonating within our mighty star. This breathtaking illustration not only represents technological prowess but also symbolizes humanity's relentless pursuit of knowledge about our cosmic surroundings. It serves as a reminder that we are constantly pushing boundaries to comprehend the vast complexities of our universe. As we gaze upon this image captured by Science Photo Library, we are reminded that scientific research knows no bounds or limitations. This artwork encapsulates both the beauty and significance behind space exploration endeavors like Picard satellite – paving the way for advancements in climatology, astrophysics, atmospheric chemistry, and beyond.
