Pierre Samuel du Pont, US industrialist

Pierre Samuel Du Pont (1870-1954), US industrialist. Educated at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, du Pont became the acting president of the family business, E. I. Du Pont de Nemours and Company Inc, in 1909. He became the president of the firm in 1915 and was also the president of General Motors during 1920-23. Under his direction, the family firm increased greatly in size, becoming one of the worlds largest manufacturers of chemicals. It also took over manufacturing and other chemical companies.
