Queen Victoria assassination attempt. 19th-century artwork of Roderick McLean (died 1921) attempting to assassinate Queen Victoria (1819-1901) on 2 March 1882, at Windsor, UK. He fired his pistol as the Queens horse-drawn carriage left Windsor railway station. He missed and was restrained, arrested and tried for high treason. Found insane by a jury, he was detained at Broadmoor Asylum until his death. This engraving dates from circa 1888
