Rocket carrying Indias first satellite

Indias first satellite. The nose of the launcher rocket carrying Aryabhata, Indias first satellite. Aryabhata was a 1.4 metre diameter satellite, featuring a polyhedral design with 26 sides covered with solar cells. It was launched on 19 April 1975 from the Kapustin Yar site in Russia on a Cosmos-3M rocket into a 563 x 618km orbit with an inclination of 50.8 degrees and an orbital period of 96.3 minutes. It returned data on X-ray astronomy and solar physics for four days, all contact being lost on the fifth day. The satellite re-entered the atmosphere on 11 February 1982

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the historic moment when India's first satellite, Aryabhata, embarked on its groundbreaking journey into space. The image captures the awe-inspiring sight of a rocket carrying this technological marvel, as it pierces through the sky with determination and purpose. Aryabhata, named after an ancient Indian mathematician-astronomer, boasted a unique polyhedral design adorned with 26 sides covered in solar cells. It stood proud at 1.4 meters in diameter and held immense promise for scientific exploration. On that fateful day of April 19th, 1975, from Russia's Kapustin Yar site, a Cosmos-3M rocket propelled Aryabhata into orbit. This remarkable achievement placed India among the elite nations venturing into space exploration. For four glorious days following its launch, Aryabhata diligently collected invaluable data on X-ray astronomy and solar physics before contact was unexpectedly severed on the fifth day. Nevertheless, its contributions to scientific research were immeasurable. After seven years circling our planet faithfully since its launch date until February 11th, 1982; Aryabhata gracefully re-entered Earth's atmosphere—marking both an end to its mission and a beginning for future endeavors in space exploration. This extraordinary photograph serves as a testament to human ingenuity and collaboration between India and Russia—a symbol of progress transcending borders as we venture further into the mysteries of our universe.
