1960s Cornwall Platform Terminus Bodmin

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print takes us back in time to the 1960s, capturing a nostalgic view of the platform at Bodmin General station in Cornwall. Steeped in history, this terminus opened its doors to passengers in the late 1880s and quickly became an important hub for transportation. The station boasted a signal box and two sidings, serving as a vital link for both people and goods. However, as with many railway stations during that era, change was on the horizon. In January 1967, passenger services came to an end at Bodmin General station, marking a significant turning point in its story. Just months later, freight services also ceased operations here. Today, this historic site has found new purpose as the main station for the Bodmin and Wenford Railway. Preserving its rich heritage while offering visitors an opportunity to step back into yesteryears through scenic train rides along picturesque routes. The photo itself captures a moment frozen in time - perhaps commuters bustling about their day or families eagerly awaiting their next adventure. It serves as a reminder of how railways have shaped our lives over generations and continue to hold immense cultural significance. As we gaze upon this image from STEAM Museum of GWR's collection, we are transported not only to Bodmin General but also into our own personal memories of rail travel's golden age.
