EDITORS COMMENTS

Step back in time to the 1960s with this print of Oswestry Station, Shropshire. The image captures a nostalgic scene, showcasing a variety of motor vehicles neatly parked under the station's awning by the platform. Oswestry Station, which first opened its doors in May 1860, holds a significant place in history as it served as an important transportation hub for both passengers and goods. However, by November 1966, passenger services ceased at this once bustling station. Despite its closure to passengers, Oswestry Station continued to play a role in transporting goods until 1971. The photograph provides us with a glimpse into daily life during this era; it showcases an array of motor vans, lorries, and other motor vehicles that were commonly seen at the station during that period. These vehicles symbolize not only the importance of transportation but also reflect the changing times and advancements in technology. As we admire this snapshot from yesteryears preserved by STEAM Museum of GWR (Great Western Railway), we are reminded of how much has changed over time while appreciating the rich history embedded within these walls.
