3D Perspective View of Latona Vorona and Dali Chasma on Venus
3D Perspective View of Latona Corona and Dali Chasma on Venus. This computer-generated perspective view of Latona Corona and Dali Chasma on Venus shows Magellan radar data superimposed on topography. The view is from the northeast and vertical exaggeration is 10 times. Exaggeration of relief is a common tool scientists use to detect relationships between structure (i.e. faults and fractures) and topography. Latona Corona, a circular feature approximately 1, 000 kilometers (620 miles) in diameter whose eastern half is shown at the left of the image, has a relatively smooth, radar-bright raised rim. Bright lines or fractures within the corona appear to radiate away from its center toward the rim. The rest of the bright fractures in the area are associated with the relatively deep (approximately 3 kilometers or 1.9 miles) troughs of Dali Chasma. The Dali and Diana Chasma system consist of deep troughs that extend for 7, 400 kilometers (4, 588 miles) and are very distinct features on Venus. Those chasma connect the Ovda and Thetis highlands with the large volcanoes at Atla Regio and thus are considered to be the Scorpion Tail of Aphrodite Terra. The broad, curving scarp resembles some of Earths subduction zones where crustal plates are pushed over each other. The radar-bright surface at the highest elevation along the scarp is similar to surfaces in other elevated regions where some metallic mineral such as pyrite (fools gold) may occur on the surface

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases a mesmerizing 3D perspective view of Latona Corona and Dali Chasma on Venus. Created using Magellan radar data overlaid on topography, the image offers a unique glimpse into the intricate features of this enigmatic planet. The viewpoint is from the northeast, with a vertical exaggeration of 10 times to emphasize relief. Latona Corona takes center stage in this image, revealing its circular shape spanning approximately 1,000 kilometers (620 miles) in diameter. Its eastern half is prominently displayed on the left side of the picture, showcasing a smooth and radar-bright raised rim. Fascinatingly, bright lines or fractures within the corona appear to radiate outward from its center towards the rim. The surrounding area also boasts intriguing features such as Dali Chasma, characterized by relatively deep troughs reaching depths of around 3 kilometers (1.9 miles). These chasms extend an impressive distance of 7,400 kilometers (4,588 miles), connecting various highlands and volcanoes across Venus' surface. They are often referred to as the Scorpion Tail of Aphrodite Terra. Notably resembling Earth's subduction zones where crustal plates collide, there is a broad and curving scarp visible in this image. At its highest elevation lies a radar-bright surface that resembles regions on Venus where metallic minerals like pyrite may be present. Overall, this stunning visual representation provides scientists with valuable insights into Venus' geology while simultaneously offering viewers an awe-inspiring glimpse into our neighboring planet's mysterious landscape.
