The beech (Fagus sylvatica) is a very long-lived tree that normally reaches 150 years. This majestic specimen can be found in the Monte Venere beech forest in the province of Viterbo in central Italy. It usually grows between 800 and 1, 800 metres but in the presence of special microclimatic conditions it can also descend to lower altitudes. This is the case of beautiful beech forest of Monte Venere which has developed at an unusually low altitude (around 400-500 metres above sea level) and for this reason is known as the depressed beech forest
