Peruvian Pelican Collection

The Peruvian Pelican is a large bird found in coastal areas of Peru and Chile and has a white body, black head, and yellow bill. The wingspan of they are reach up to 2 meters wide. They feed mainly on fish, but also eat crustaceans and other aquatic animals. During breeding season, they form large colonies near the shoreline where they build their nests on rocks or in trees. The female lays two to three eggs which are incubated for about 28 days before hatching. After hatching, both parents take turns feeding the chicks until they are ready to fledge at around 10 weeks old. The Peruvian Pelican is listed as Near Threatened due to habitat loss and overfishing in its range countries. Conservation efforts have been put into place to help protect this species from further decline in numbers.
