Jacopo di Cione Orcagna Collection

Jacopo di Cione Orcagna (c. 1320–1368) was an Italian painter, mosaicist, and sculptor of the early Renaissance period. He was born in Florence and is considered to be one of the most important figures in the development of Tuscan painting during this time. His works are characterized by a strong sense of realism, with a focus on naturalistic details and vivid colors. He is best known for his frescoes in the Strozzi Chapel at Santa Maria Novella, which depict scenes from the life of St. Francis of Assisi as well as various allegorical figures representing virtues such as Justice and Prudence. His other notable works include a polyptych altarpiece for Orsanmichele Church in Florence and several sculptures for churches throughout Tuscany. Orcagna's influence can still be seen today through his influence on later painters such as Masaccio, Ghirlandaio, Botticelli, and Michelangelo.
