Wolseys West Facade of Hampton Court Palace and the Disinterred Bridge, c1935. Hampton Court, former royal palace in Richmond upon Thames, London. Started by Cardinal Wolsey in 1514, the Palace passed to King Henry VIII in 1529 when Wolsey fell from favour. It was extensively altered by Henry. The last monarch to use the Palace was George II. The bridge was supposedly rediscovered in the late 19th century after the moat had been filled in, and was later excavated, with the statues of heraldic beasts re-instated. This print showcases the West Facade of Hampton Court Palace and the Disinterred Bridge, dating back to approximately 1935. Originally initiated by Cardinal Wolsey in 1514, this magnificent former royal palace is located in Richmond upon Thames, London. However, it came under King Henry VIII's possession in 1529 after Wolsey fell out of favor. Over time, Henry made extensive alterations to the palace. The image captures a moment frozen in time when the bridge was rediscovered during the late 19th century after its moat had been filled in. Later on, it was excavated with heraldic beast statues reinstated. The architectural beauty of this sixteenth-century structure is evident as it stands proudly against the backdrop of a serene landscape.
