This haunting image captures the moment when the ghost of the renowned French political figure, Jean Jaures, pays a visit to Edward Morel, a Congo activist and anti-war campaigner, in his cell at Pentonville Prison in 1917. Morel, born in France but a long-time resident of Britain, was incarcerated for his outspoken opposition to the ongoing war efforts. Morel's activism against the exploitation of the Congo Free State, a Belgian colony in Central Africa, had gained him international recognition.
