Adelaide Hall in Blackbirds of 1928: A Jazz Innovator and Broadway Star of the Harlem Renaissance This photograph captures Adelaide Hall, a trailblazing figure of the 1920s Harlem Renaissance, during her time in New York. Born in 1901, Adelaide Hall was an influential jazz artist and Broadway star, whose talent and charisma left an indelible mark on the cultural landscape of the era. In this image, Adelaide Hall is seen in the original Broadway production of "Blackbirds," a groundbreaking revue that premiered in 1926 and ran for over 500 performances. The show, which featured an all-Black cast, was a sensation and helped to break down racial barriers in American entertainment. Adelaide Hall's performance in "Blackbirds" was a critical and commercial success.
