EDITORS COMMENTS
This evocative photograph captures the timeless charm of the Plough Public House in South Ockendon, Essex, as it looked in the 1930s. The image, taken from the left side of the building, showcases the classic design of the pub with its red brick facade, ornate woodwork, and large, arched windows. The Plough, which was not part of Seabrooke and Sons Limited, was a popular gathering place for the local community, and the Trading Record on the reverse of this print reveals that it was in operation as early as 1929. The history of the Plough is rich and varied. In the 1960s, it was known as the Village Inn, and later, in the late 1990s, it became A Stones Throw. However, by July 2018, it had been demolished to make way for new flats. The photograph serves as a poignant reminder of the pub's past, transporting us back in time to an era of community spirit and simple pleasures. The Plough may no longer stand, but its legacy lives on in the memories of those who once called it their local.
