Born on April 14, 1818, in Altenburg, Saxony, Marie was the eldest daughter of Duke Frederick of Saxe-Altenburg and Princess Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Schwerin. In 1853, she married Prince George V of Hanover, who was a grandson of King George III of the United Kingdom and Queen Charlotte. The portrait, taken in December 1903, showcases Marie's refined beauty and poised demeanor.
