Huddersfield Town goalie Steve Hardwick is ready and waiting for shots while Meltham
Huddersfield Town goalie Steve Hardwick is ready and waiting for shots while Meltham Under-11 team lines up. Eight-year-old Robert Yarker arranged for the team, which he trains with, to spend an hour scoring sponsored goals against Steve. He volunteered to tackle the event after hearing his mother, Jill talk about the Joyce Dunn appeal for an electric bed at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary. Together with his pals in the team Robert, of Meltham, hopes to raise nearly £ 300 for the appeal, which was organised after Mrs Dunn was injured in a car accident in the village. Mrs Dunns husband, Meltham Town Council member Alec Dunn, is also pictured. 9th June 1991

EDITORS COMMENTS
In this heartwarming photo print, Huddersfield Town goalie Steve Hardwick exudes determination as he stands ready and waiting for shots from the Meltham Under-11 team. The young players line up with excitement, eager to test their skills against a professional goalkeeper. What makes this moment even more special is the reason behind it. Eight-year-old Robert Yarker took it upon himself to organize this unique opportunity for his team after hearing about the Joyce Dunn appeal. His mother, Jill, had spoken about the urgent need for an electric bed at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary following Mrs. Dunn's car accident in their village of Meltham. Robert and his teammates hope to raise nearly £300 through sponsored goals during this event, all in support of the appeal. Their selflessness and dedication shine through as they combine their passion for football with a desire to make a difference in someone's life. The photograph also captures Alec Dunn, husband of Mrs. Dunn and member of Meltham Town Council, standing alongside Steve Hardwick and the young players. This image serves as a reminder that communities can come together to support one another during challenging times. Taken on June 9th, 1991, this snapshot from the past encapsulates childhood innocence, teamwork on the field, and compassion off it - reminding us that even small gestures can have a significant impact on those in need.
