Egyptian Girls dancing and playing Ball (litho)
8661088 Egyptian Girls dancing and playing Ball (litho) by Dudley, Robert Ambrose (1867-1951); Private Collection; (add.info.: Egyptian Girls dancing and playing Ball. Many pastimes of the Egyptians, thousands of years ago, were similar to those of our own time. Dolls, crocodiles with moving jaws, amongst other toys, were given to children, and the hoop and ball to those of a more advanced age. In the tombs of Beni Hassan we find representations of women playing ball in the form of a dance - at least so we may conjecture from the costume worn. EDITORS COMMENTS
This lithograph by Robert Ambrose Dudley transports us back in time to ancient Egypt, where we witness a scene of young girls joyfully dancing and playing ball. The intricate details of their costumes and the graceful movements captured in this artwork offer a glimpse into the pastimes of Egyptian society thousands of years ago.
Intriguingly, many aspects of daily life depicted here are surprisingly familiar to our own modern experiences. From dolls and toys given to children, to games like hoop and ball enjoyed by older individuals, it is evident that some traditions have stood the test of time.
The setting within the tombs of Beni Hassan adds an air of mystery and historical significance to this image. As women engage in what appears to be a dance intertwined with ball play, we are reminded of the rich cultural heritage that has been preserved through such artistic representations.
Through this lithograph, we are invited to appreciate not only the beauty and gracefulness of these Egyptian girls but also the enduring connections between past civilizations and our contemporary world. It serves as a poignant reminder that while times may change, certain aspects of human nature remain constant throughout history.
