Margot Fonteyn, Rudolf Nureyev and Princess Grace of Monaco

Margot Fonteyn (R) speaks 02 July 1968 with Soviet born ballet dancer Rudolf Nureyev (C) and Princess Grace of Monaco in front of the stage setting for the Third International Ballet Festival in Monte Carlo. Nureyev studied at the Leningrad Choreographic School, and became a soloist with the Kirov Ballet. While touring with the Ballet in 1961, he obtained political asylum in Paris. Nureyevs virtuosity and expressiveness made him one of the greatest male dancers of the 1960 s, in both classical and modern ballets. He became ballet director of the Paris Opera in 1983. / AFP PHOTO

In this photo print, we are transported back to the glamorous world of ballet in the 1960s. The image captures a momentous encounter between three iconic figures: Margot Fonteyn, Rudolf Nureyev, and Princess Grace of Monaco. Margot Fonteyn, renowned for her grace and elegance as a ballerina, stands at the forefront of the picture. Her poised demeanor exudes confidence and authority. Beside her stands Rudolf Nureyev, a Soviet-born ballet dancer who defected to Paris in 1961. Nureyev's intense gaze hints at his fiery passion for dance that would make him one of the greatest male dancers of his time. Completing this extraordinary trio is none other than Princess Grace of Monaco herself. Known for her love and support for the arts, she shares an animated conversation with Fonteyn and Nureyev against the backdrop of a stage setting for the Third International Ballet Festival in Monte Carlo. This photograph encapsulates not only their individual talents but also their collective impact on classical and modern ballet during this era. Their collaboration undoubtedly left an indelible mark on dance history.
