The previous season had seen Arsenal finish third in the Premier League, missing out on the coveted Champions League spot. This pre-season tour of Asia was an opportunity for Arsene Wenger and his squad to regain their form and prepare for the upcoming 2012-13 season. The team's schedule included matches against Malaysia XI, Selangor FA, and Melbourne Victory. Benik Afobe, who had joined Arsenal from Arsenal's academy in 2007, was eager to make an impact in the first team. The 21-year-old striker had spent the previous season on loan at Millwall and had scored 13 goals in 32 appearances, impressing many with his goalscoring ability.
