View of Old Town, the walled city of Dubrovnik, UNESCO World Heritage Site, Dalmatia, Croatia
Dubrovnik is one of the most prominent tourist destinations in the Mediterranean Sea, a seaport on the Dalmation coast. In 1979, the city of Dubrovnik joined the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites.
Although Dubrovnik was demilitarised in the 1970s to protect it in case of war, in 1991, after the breakup of Yugoslavia, it was besieged by the Serb and Montenegrin soldiers gathered in the Yugoslav Peoples Army (JNA) for seven months and suffered significant damage from shelling.
After the war all damage was repaired in original style

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the breathtaking view of Old Town, the walled city of Dubrovnik, a UNESCO World Heritage Site nestled in the picturesque Dalmatia region of Croatia. Known as one of the most prominent tourist destinations in the Mediterranean Sea, Dubrovnik is a charming seaport on the Dalmatian coast that has enchanted visitors for centuries.
The historical significance of this ancient city is evident as it proudly joined the prestigious UNESCO list in 1979. However, its peaceful existence was shattered during the turbulent times following Yugoslavia's breakup. In 1991, Dubrovnik endured a seven-month siege by Serb and Montenegrin soldiers from the Yugoslav Peoples Army (JNA), resulting in significant damage from relentless shelling.
Remarkably, after years of restoration efforts aimed at preserving its original style and beauty, all traces of war have been erased from this resilient town. The fortress Lovrijenac stands tall against an azure sky while colorful rooftops dotting narrow streets create a vibrant tapestry against nature's backdrop.
As you gaze upon this image, you can almost feel the warm Mediterranean breeze caressing your face and hear echoes of history whispering through time. The marina gracefully welcomes nautical vessels while ancient walls protect cherished treasures within their embrace.
Dubrovnik's charm extends beyond its fortified walls to encompass stunning coastal views and lush landscapes adorned with blooming flowers and majestic trees. This Eastern European gem offers travelers an unforgettable experience steeped in rich culture and heritage.
Immerse yourself in Dubrovnik's allure through this photograph captured by Frans Sellies. Let your imagination wander along these historic streets as you embark on a visual journey filled with beauty, tranquility, and admiration for humanity's ability to rebuild even amidst adversity.
