EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases a rare and valuable 30c Alexander Hamilton special printing single from 1875. Created by the esteemed Continental Bank Note Company, this unused stamp is a unique piece of American postal history. Only around 40 examples of this particular stamp are believed to still exist today, making it an incredibly sought-after collector's item. Intriguingly, in preparation for the Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia in 1876, officials from the Post Office Department decided to exhibit samples of all previously issued stamps. To fulfill this requirement, they commissioned a special printing of the 1873 Issue and ordered extra copies specifically for sale to avid stamp collectors. The close-up image allows us to appreciate the intricate details engraved on hard white wove paper. The portrait depicts Alexander Hamilton, renowned as an economist and one of America's founding fathers. The black ink engraving contrasts beautifully with green lettering and perforated edges. This photograph not only captures a stunning piece of philately but also offers insights into nineteenth-century communication systems and political heritage. It serves as a reminder that postage stamps hold more than just monetary value; they embody historical significance and symbolize our nation's progress over time. Displayed at the National Postal Museum, this remarkable artifact continues to fascinate viewers with its rich colors, meticulous craftsmanship, and connection to both American history and the artistry behind postage stamps.
