After the joint victory of the German states in the Franco-Prussian War, the Prussian King Wilhelm I was proclaimed German Emperor in the Hall of Mirrors at the Palace of Versailles outside Paris. . This print captures a significant moment in history - the proclamation of the German Empire at Versailles on January 18,1871. After their joint victory in the Franco-Prussian War, King Wilhelm I of Prussia was declared the German Emperor in a grand ceremony held in the Hall of Mirrors at the Palace of Versailles. The image showcases an impressive scene with dignitaries and military personnel gathered around a raised dais where Emperor Wilhelm I stands. The opulent surroundings of the Hall of Mirrors add to the sense of grandeur and power emanating from this historic event. Although created by an unknown artist, this print is based on a painting made in 1885 by Anton Alexander von Werner. It beautifully captures not only the ceremonial aspect but also highlights key figures such as Otto von Bismarck, who played a crucial role in unifying Germany under Prussian leadership. This photograph comes from "Bilder Deutscher Geschichte" which translates to "Pictures of German History".
