Progress of the International Exhibition Building: ornamentation of roof and railing of... 1862. Creator: Unknown
Progress of the International Exhibition Building: ornamentation of roof and railing of gallery, 1862. Illustration of...that which we have more than once described in detail - namely, the decoration of the roof, with its colouring and gilding, and its somewhat minute, but on the whole pretty and not ineffective, ornamentation. A section of the railing of the galleries will be seen at the foot of the Engraving, and it shows what we conceive to be the neatest part of the decoration of the building, the emblematic design and the border being in good keeping, and the touches of gilding tastefully laid on'. The International Exhibition of 1862 was a world's fair held from 1 May to 1 November 1862 in South Kensington, London. The site now houses museums including the Natural History Museum and the Science Museum. From "Illustrated London News", 1862
