EDITORS COMMENTS
This illustration showcases the majestic RMS Aquitania, a Cunard White Star Liner that graced the waters from 1914 until her scrapping in 1950. Measuring an impressive 901 feet in length and weighing 45,647 tons, the Aquitania was a true marvel of maritime engineering during her time. Launched in 1914, she was the first of the three sister ships, Aquitania, Olympic, and Titanic, built for the Cunard Line. The Aquitania was designed to provide transatlantic transportation for passengers, setting sail on her maiden voyage from Liverpool to New York City on May 21, 1914. This illustration beautifully captures the grandeur of the Aquitania, with her sleek, elegant lines, tall smokestacks, and ornate decorative details. Her size and imposing presence are evident, as she cuts through the water with ease, leaving a wake behind her. The Aquitania's career was marked by several significant achievements. She was the fastest liner in service when she was launched, and she held the Blue Riband for the fastest transatlantic crossing several times. She also served as a troopship during World War I and was later converted into a cruise ship in the 1930s. Despite her storied history, the Aquitania's story came to an end in 1950 when she was sold for scrap. This illustration serves as a poignant reminder of the Aquitania's legacy as a symbol of luxury, innovation, and adventure on the high seas.
