Mahmoud, a chestnut Arabian stallion, was owned by the Aga Khan, the spiritual leader of the Ismaili Muslims and a renowned horse breeder and owner. The horse, sired by the legendary Bold Venture, was a champion in his own right, having won the English Triple Crown in 1934.
