ECCOSAIS 92nd Regiment d?Infanterie
ECCOSAIS 92nd Regiment d?Infanterie. Colour etching by an unknown artist, 1815 (c). The 92nd (Gordon) Highlanders served in Egypt, the Low Countries, Portugal, Spain and Waterloo. During the Napoleonic Wars eight Scottish infantry regiments were designated Highland Regiments, they were well known for their ferocity on the battlefield and their good behaviour off it. As the war went on some abandoned their highland dress since the unwillingness of non-Highlanders to wear a kilt had made it difficult for them to attract recruits. From a collection of ten engravings of the British Army in Paris entitled ?Costumes Millitaires?, published by Genty, Paris, 1815 (c). Date: circa 1815

EDITORS COMMENTS
This color etching, created by an unknown artist in 1815, showcases the ECCOSAIS 92nd Regiment d'Infanterie, also known as the Gordon Highlanders. During the Napoleonic Wars, eight Scottish infantry regiments were distinguished as Highland Regiments, renowned for their fierce battlefield presence and impeccable conduct off the battlefield. The 92nd Regiment served in various campaigns, including Egypt, the Low Countries, Portugal, Spain, and Waterloo. As the wars progressed, some regiments, including the 92nd, abandoned their traditional Highland dress due to the reluctance of non-Highlanders to wear kilts. This made it challenging for them to recruit sufficient numbers. The image captures the regiment in their uniforms, a blend of Scottish and British military styles, reflecting the evolving nature of the British Army during this period. This print is part of a collection of ten engravings titled 'Costumes Millitaires,' published by Genty in Paris around 1815. The collection offers a fascinating glimpse into the diverse and dynamic military landscape of the time. The ECCOSAIS 92nd Regiment d'Infanterie, with its rich history and unique identity, stands out as a testament to the courage and adaptability of the British military during the Napoleonic Wars.
