EDITORS COMMENTS
This beautiful photograph captures the momentous occasion of the marriage of HRH Prince George Frederick Ernest Albert, Duke of York, to Princess May of Teck, also known as Princess Mary, on July 6, 1893. The Duke, who was the second son of King George V and Queen Mary, is seen in his full regal attire, wearing the Star and Garter insignia of the Order of the Garter, along with his Order of the Bath sash and star. Princess May, dressed in an elegant white wedding gown and veil, is gracefully accompanied by her bridesmaids as she walks towards her groom at the Chapel Royal in St. James's Palace, London. The newlyweds exchanged vows in the presence of their families and distinguished guests, marking the beginning of their lifelong partnership. After the wedding ceremony, the couple made their way to White Lodge in Richmond, their new home, where they would start their married life together. White Lodge, a beautiful mansion set in the picturesque surroundings of Richmond Park, had been gifted to the Duke by Queen Victoria in 1891. The couple's decision to make White Lodge their residence was a significant one, as it marked the beginning of a new era for the York family, who had previously resided at Osborne House on the Isle of Wight. This photograph, taken in the 1890s, is a testament to the grandeur and elegance of the Victorian era and the royal traditions that continue to be upheld by the British monarchy to this day.
