This photograph captures James Trainer, a Welsh-born footballing legend of the late 19th century. Born in 1863, Trainer's impressive career spanned over a decade and saw him play for several prominent English clubs, as well as representing Wales on the international stage. Trainer's football journey began with Wrexham, a Welsh team based in North Wales. He later joined Great Lever, a local team from Bolton, before making a significant impact at Bolton Wanderers, one of the most successful clubs in English football history. Trainer's exceptional goalkeeping skills earned him a move to Preston North End, where he helped the team secure the Football League Championship title in the 1894-95 season. This photograph, taken in the 1890s, shows Trainer in his prime.
