This striking portrait captures King George VI (1895-1952) in his coronation robes, painted by Albert Collings in 1937. The monarch, who ascended to the throne following the abdication of his brother, King Edward VIII, is depicted wearing the traditional regalia of the British monarchy. Originally painted for the coronation of King Edward VIII, Collings made an adjustment to the portrait after Edward's abdication, replacing his brother's face with that of King George VI.
