Mahmut Sevket Pasa played a pivotal role in Ottoman history during the early 20th century. In 1909, he successfully suppressed a religious uprising known as the "31 Mart Incident," which forced the subsequent deposition of Sultan Abdulhamid II. Following the uprising, Mahmut Sevket Pasa served as the grand vizier (chief minister) of the Ottoman Empire in 1913.
