EDITORS COMMENTS
The Last Days of the Dinosaurs: A Time of Great Change" is an evocative illustration by Neave Parker, in collaboration with Dr. W.E. Swinton, depicting the final days of the Cretaceous Period, approximately 80 million years ago. This image transports us back in time to the North American continent, where the last remnants of the dinosaur era were drawing to a close. The foreground of the illustration is dominated by a diverse assemblage of late Cretaceous dinosaurs. A herd of Triceratops, their frilled heads held high, graze peacefully, seemingly unaware of the impending cataclysm. A pair of Ankylosaurus, their armor-plated bodies adorned with knobby plates, cautiously approach, while a Pachycephalosaurus, with its distinctive dome-shaped skull, stands guard. In the background, a Tyrannosaurus Rex, the king of the tyrants, stalks with predatory intent. The landscape is a testament to the geological upheaval that marked the end of the Cretaceous Period. The beginnings of the Rocky Mountains can be seen in the distance, their peaks "snorting away" as volcanic activity begins to reshape the continent. This geological shift, combined with the catastrophic impact of a large asteroid, would ultimately lead to the extinction of the non-avian dinosaurs. This illustration, with its intricate details and vivid colors, offers a glimpse into the final days of the dinosaur age, a time of great change and transformation. The collaboration between Neave Parker and Dr. W.E. Swinton brings to life the prehistoric world, inviting us to ponder the mysteries of the past and the wonders of evolution.
