This exquisite hand-colored copperplate engraving depicts the Macleay's Swallowtail, Graphium macleayanus, also known as the Macleay's Butterfly or Papilio macleayanus. The image was meticulously drawn and engraved by the skilled hand of Richard Polydore Nodder, and published in William Elford Leach's Zoological Miscellany in 1814. The Macleay's Swallowtail is a stunning insect native to the Indo-Australian region, with a wingspan of up to 12 centimeters.
