Tipu Sultan's Observatory, also known as the Raja Tipu's Observatory or Tipu's Saracen's Thorei, is a historic astronomical observatory located in Bengaluru (Bangalore), Karnataka, India. This photograph, taken in the 1910s, captures the unique and intriguing structure nestled on a muddy hillside. Tipu Sultan, the ruler of the Kingdom of Mysore from 1782 to 1799, was a visionary ruler who was known for his patronage of science and technology. The observatory, built in the late 18th century, is a testament to his fascination with astronomy. The observatory is a circular, domed structure with a turret on the north side. It is believed to have been used for observing celestial bodies and predicting astronomical events.
