In this historic photograph, a Northrop RF-61C Sabreliner, previously known as the F-15A, taxis on the runway with a body carried in its belly, ready for transport to altitude. The aircraft, bearing the serial number 45-59300 and operated by the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA), is poised for an important research mission. On 24 September 1950, the RF-61C took off from Muroc Dry Lake, California, with the body securely stowed within its fuselage.
