EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph print showcases a selection of scenes from the 1928 British silent film, "The Constant Nymph," directed by Basil Dean and Adrian Brunel. The film, based on the novel of the same name by Ivor Novello, was produced at the Islington Studios in London during the 1920s. In the first scene, we see the young and talented Tessa, portrayed by Joan Marion, playing the piano in a vibrant jazz club, surrounded by the lively energy of the 1920s. Her performance captivates the audience, including the older and refined Terence, played by Ivor Novello, who becomes infatuated with her. The second scene displays Tessa and Terence in a more intimate setting, with Tessa's youthful innocence and Terence's mature charm creating a palpable tension between them. Their relationship is further complicated by Terence's engagement to the older and more conventional Lady Furnivall, played by Violet Melnotte. The final scene depicts Tessa's heart-wrenching decision to leave Terence and pursue a life of music, ultimately sacrificing her own happiness for his. The photograph captures the poignant emotions of each scene, transporting us back to the historical era of the 1920s and the timeless tale of love, sacrifice, and the complexities of the human heart.
