The Western Desert Air Transport Service has carried out valuable work in the North African campaign. Pilots and crews of these transport aircraft are briefed like bomber crews, and they operate to a carefully prepared schedule. Their work takes them to within a few miles of the enemys positions. Aircraft which have flown fresh troops forward often return with the wounded, and some of the planes are specially fitted to take stretcher- cases. It is a distinctly hazardous business, but the Air Transport always fulfils its unofficial motto " We deliver the Goods!".
