EDITORS COMMENTS
The British Independent Football team celebrates their triumphant return from Italy and Sicily, where they secured a spot in the prestigious Women's World Cup held in Mexico. Led by the esteemed manager Harry Batt, these eleven talented ladies have made history for their country. Amongst them are Bobbie Wing, a 20-year-old from Royston; Paula Rayner, a 15-year-old hailing from Luton; Carol Wilson, an 18-year-old representing Newcastle; Jill Stockley, a 16-year-old proudly originating from Nuneaton; Janice Barton at the age of 19; Leah Caleb, just 14 years old but already making waves in Luton; Jean Bracken, aged 19 and coming all the way from Skipton; Trudy Caffery and Val Cheshire both contributing to the team's success at ages 16 and 23 respectively. This photograph captures not only their joyous spirits but also serves as a testament to their dedication and hard work. These remarkable women embody strength and resilience on the football field while breaking barriers for female athletes everywhere. As we look back on this historic moment captured on June 18th, 1971, it is evident that these trailblazers have paved the way for future generations of women in sports. Freddie Reed OBE has beautifully preserved this memory through his lens with Memory Lane Prints.
