Brain neuron

Brain neuron. Computer reconstruction of a medium spiny neuron from the basal ganglia of the brain. Neurons (nerve cells) are responsible for passing information around the central nervous system (CNS) and from the CNS to the rest of the body. Each neuron comprises a cell body (centre) surrounded by extensions called dendrites that collect information from other neurons or sensory cells. Medium spiny neurons account for around 90 percent of the neurons in the corpus striatum of the basal ganglia and play a key role in initiating and controlling body movements. Their dendrites are covered with numerous small spines that receive inputs from neurons outside the striatum

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases a computer reconstruction of a medium spiny neuron from the basal ganglia of the brain. The intricate details and vibrant colors against a black background make this artwork truly mesmerizing. Neurons, also known as nerve cells, are responsible for transmitting information throughout the central nervous system (CNS) and to other parts of the body. This particular type of neuron, the medium spiny neuron, plays a vital role in initiating and controlling body movements. Its dendrites, which are extensions that collect information from other neurons or sensory cells, are covered with numerous small spines that receive inputs from outside sources. The complexity and beauty of this neural network highlight the remarkable intricacies within our own bodies. It serves as a reminder of how interconnected our biological systems are and how essential these neurons are for proper functioning. Through advanced computer simulation techniques, scientists have been able to recreate this stunning image that delves into the depths of human anatomy. This illustration not only represents an artistic masterpiece but also contributes significantly to our understanding of neurology and physiology. Displayed on its own or as part of a collection, this print is sure to captivate anyone with an interest in biology or neuroscience. It serves as both an educational tool and a work of art that celebrates the wonders found within our very own brains.
