This evocative photograph captures the solemn procession of Penitentes Rezagados during Semana Santa, or Holy Week, in Sevilla, Spain. The Penitentes, members of various brotherhoods or cofradias, are seen carrying heavy and ornate floats bearing the images of Christ and the Virgin Mary. Dressed in traditional Nazarene robes and pointed hoods, they bear the crosses and self-flagellate as an act of penance and devotion.
