13132581. European badger, Meles meles, on forest

European badger, Meles meles, on forest. Although classified as a carnivore, the European badger feeds on a wide variety of plant and animal foods, feeding on earthworms, large insects, small mammals, carrion, cereals and tubers. Litters of up to five cubs are produced in spring. The young are weaned a few months later but usually remain within the family group. The European badger has been known to share its burrow with other species such as rabbits and red foxes, but it can be ferocious when provoked, a trait which has been exploited in the now illegal blood sport of badger-baiting. Badgers are a reservoir for bovine tuberculosis, which also affects cattle. In England, culling of badger populations is used to reduce the incidence of bovine tuberculosis in cattle. Portugal Date

Badger Bonanza - When Forest Friends Unite!

EDITORS COMMENTS
. In this photo print, we witness the enchanting world of a European badger, Meles meles. With its striking black and white markings, this charismatic carnivore proves that it's not just about meat on the menu! Known for its diverse palate, our badger buddy indulges in earthworms, large insects, small mammals, carrion, cereals, and even tubers - talk about a gourmet feast! But there's more to this woodland wonder than meets the eye. The European badger is no stranger to hospitality as it generously shares its burrow with other species like rabbits and red foxes. However, don't be fooled by their accommodating nature; when provoked, these furry fellows can unleash their ferocious side. While they may have a reputation for being party animals within their family groups (litters of up to five cubs are born each spring), badgers also play an unwitting role in bovine tuberculosis transmission. In England specifically, efforts are made to reduce the incidence of this disease in cattle through targeted culling of badger populations. So let's raise our paws and celebrate the incredible diversity found in nature's tapestry! This stunning snapshot reminds us that even amidst challenges such as illegal blood sports or disease control measures – these resilient creatures continue to thrive in harmony with their surroundings.
