EDITORS COMMENTS
Trevor Steven and Adrian Heath, two iconic figures from Everton Football Club's storied history, proudly hold aloft the Charity Shield in this vintage photograph from the 1985 season. The Charity Shield, a traditional curtain-raiser to the English football season, was contested between the reigning league champions and FA Cup winners. In 1985, Everton had the unique distinction of being both, having won the First Division title under the stewardship of manager Howard Kendall and the FA Cup under the guidance of caretaker manager Colin Harvey. Steven, a versatile winger, was a key player for Everton during this period, making over 300 appearances for the club between 1981 and 1989. He was known for his pace, skill, and ability to score crucial goals, including the winner in the FA Cup Final against Manchester United that season. Heath, on the other hand, was a talented striker who joined Everton from West Ham United in 1983. He went on to score 55 goals in 151 appearances for the Toffees, forming a formidable partnership with Gary Lineker. This photograph captures a moment of triumph and camaraderie between two of Everton's most beloved players. The Charity Shield, with its traditional blue ribbon, sits proudly between them, a symbol of their team's success and the beginning of a new season full of promise. The image, captured by renowned football photographer Joe Mann, adds to its timeless appeal, transporting us back to a bygone era of football and reminding us of the rich history and traditions of Everton Football Club.
