EDITORS COMMENTS
This stunning print captures the intricate details of a Royal Naval uniform from 1843, showcasing the exquisite craftsmanship and rich history of British naval attire. The double-breasted coat, made of blue wool facecloth, features elaborate gilt brass buttons with a design of rope twist borders, foul anchors, and crowns - symbols of maritime power and authority. The sleeves are adorned with mariner's cuffs and gold lace trimmings, while the stand-up collar is lined with white wool and fastened with a brass hook and eye. The interior reveals meticulous stitching and interlining for added support, reflecting the practicality required for life at sea. A poignant inscription on a label sewn into the collar tells the story of Captain George Ourrey Lamperer R.N., who served under Lord Nelson at the Battle of Copenhagen in 1801 and later under Sir Alexander Cochrane in Guadaloupe. His legacy lives on through this well-preserved uniform that witnessed historic naval battles. Every detail in this uniform speaks volumes about tradition, honor, and dedication to duty. It serves as a reminder of the bravery and sacrifice of those who have served in Her Majesty's Royal Navy throughout history. This print is not just an image; it is a tangible connection to our maritime past that deserves to be cherished for generations to come.
