This print captures the historical Reading Poor House in Berkshire, England, dating back to 1626. The poor house was situated on Minster Street, opposite St Mary's church, with access to the Holy brook and Mill stream. By 1628, the site had been transformed into a workhouse for impoverished clothiers and became known as 'The Oracle'.
