The Early Morning of Life, The Daily Bread (litho)

8661032 The Early Morning of Life, The Daily Bread (litho) by Ruith, Horace van (1839-1923); Private Collection; (add.info.: The Early Morning of Life, The Daily Bread. The earliest Indian savages were gradually ousted by another race of the same general civilization. But these were long-haired and comely, though snub-nosed and broad-faced, and browner, stronger and larger than their predecessors. Their descendants still live on in difficult isolated localities in the same low scale of civilization. They were driven out of the better lands by Dravidian races of the same general physical type, but endowed with a high capacity for mental development. The Dravidians now occupy all Southern India as a highly civilized race. Illustration for Hutchinson's History of the Nations (Hutchinson, c.1920). EDITORS COMMENTS
This lithograph by Horace van Ruith, titled "The Early Morning of Life, The Daily Bread," transports us back in time to a pivotal moment in history. The image depicts the clash of civilizations as early Indian savages are gradually replaced by a new race with distinct physical characteristics. The long-haired and comely newcomers, though snub-nosed and broad-faced, possess greater strength and size than their predecessors. Despite their physical prowess, they are eventually displaced from prime lands by the Dravidian people who excel in mental development. These Dravidians now dominate Southern India as a highly civilized society. Through intricate details and expert craftsmanship, van Ruith captures the essence of this historical transition with precision and depth. The scene is rich with symbolism and serves as a reminder of the complex tapestry that makes up our shared human experience. As we gaze upon this lithograph, we are reminded of the resilience of humanity throughout time - how cultures evolve and adapt to changing landscapes. It is a testament to our enduring spirit and capacity for growth. This print from Fine Art Finder not only showcases artistic talent but also invites us to reflect on our own place within the grand narrative of history.
